          Indeed it could be said to be a kind of abuse, though perhaps no more so of the piano than of any of the participants; the expression "go to the bottom of the Klass" springs to mind (though not in the literal sense, of course)...

            I believe so, yes; now whether it, too, is supposedly seen by MIT as "symbolic" of something in the sense of seeking to denigrate the acoustic piano for what might be perceived as the regressiveness of its "technology" I have no idea. Charles Rosen's question as to why Duchable didn't do something more interesting with "his" piano, like selling it, could as well be put to those who particiate in this unedifying and surely uneducational ceremony...
