Unfortunately have never heard "Cohesion", the classical jazz symphony by Charles Stepney.

If anyone has a link to it, I would like to hear it.

    A few records of his:

        Jean Terrell and Tammi Terrell.

The two were not related. The first is the sister of the boxer Ernie Terrell who fought Ali. The latter born Montgomery was named Terrell just because Tamla Motown boss Berry Gordy liked the name. Jean took the lead vocal on many of the Supremes hits when Diana Ross went solo in 1970. Now 70, she has continued to sing a range of Supremes' hits long into this century and also went on to work with a range of jazz musicians. Tammi who had been unwell since 1967 died at the age of 24 in the year Diana Ross left the Supremes.

The key points are first that Jean, a different sort of singer from Ross in that she was less schmaltzy - and that is not a criticism of Ross at all - succeeded. That would have been impossible in a lesser person's hands. Secondly, while there are no doubt several good singers who were on Tamla Motown and never had an international hit, Tammi was the one of the bunch that had a few commercial successes whose voice stands out from the rest. Links one and two need no explanation. The third is a curiosity in that it was the only hit song on which Jean Terrell and the other two Supremes shared lead vocals after Ross's departure. The fourth and fifth are also of interest in that the former by Stevie Wonder was not released until 1980 where it featured on the album "Hotter Than July". That enabled the Tammi Terrell version of his song recorded in 1966 to become much better known:

The album "Resurrection" by US group The Aerovons was released in 2003, some 34 years after it was recorded at Abbey Road.

A 1967 demo record was heard by Capitol Records. In spite of an offer to record in Los Angeles, the group held out hope that they could record in London, the recording home of their heroes, The Beatles. In 1968 they travelled to London twice, receiving offers from both EMI and Decca. A year later, the band returned to London and recorded the album.

Once the album was finished, the band returned to St Louis where personal problems between a group member and his family caused the group to splinter. EMI decided not to release the album and it didn't see the light of day until it had become a mere curiosity. Tom Hartman, raised on classical music, is allegedly still working on new material:

Think I got the wrong end of the stick when I thought this thread was about a jukebox rather than a turntable.

Fleet Foxes because of the way in which their songs have an extraordinary feeling for a certain kind of music in the American mainstream during the early 1970s. I never thought we would hear the like again. There is an additional ethereal element which is difficult to put into words, It isn't pop/rock/folk but rather it sounds as if it is from centuries ago:

                          Blue Ridge Mountains - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIU4A_TiGeo
                          White Winter Hymnal - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gml-nAJGRbY

                          He Doesn't Know Why - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x9KPx8rf1Q

James Le Rouge who is essentially a Member of the Public. It's just something I like - and an interesting contrast with the original. I couldn't say if it lacks sophistication. Possibly it does and that such things are commonplace. It also sounds to me as if he hits a wrong key in one place. But there is a hint of Gebrue and Yirga and also something rather French:

                          Blue Ridge Mountains 2 and 1 -

Beyond the Blue Ridges - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKmtlQH6XzU

Also, I'll finish the Abba thing now. This is quality in that niche in my humble opinion. Strong songwriting. She conveys it with total conviction. Interestingly, it didn't sell well:

Agnetha Faltskog - Wrap Your Arms Around Me:

Agnetha sings her second song on "The Heat Is On" Special from April 1983. This show was part of a promotional tour to publicise her first solo album after ...

                            1984 - Jesse Saunders - On and On - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUeMFG4wjJw

But I fully accept they developed it as did Jefferson, Todd Terry, 808 State, Gerald etc!

                            1999 - Chemicals - Hey Boy Hey Girl - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW2bqBhP4AA

As a footnote, it probably comes as no surprise that I veer more towards electronica than dance because I was 26 in 1989 and didn't really need to be a rebel in a field just off the M25. The starting point was almost certainly Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" in 1975. However, there was an element of cross-over in what I was listening to at various events in the late 1980s. I did see Todd Terry live if I can put what he did in those terms. The "Batmobile" album of 1988 stands out to me because of its nuances. I often look for "haunting" and there is something of that in its detail. Rather like dub, if you stand on the balcony of a tower block flat in the dark, there is in the sound an odd "connect" across to others' lights.

                            1988 - Todd Terry - Just Wanna Dance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC8DHjP5BJ0

Of the tracks here, though, I like the one from 1957 best as it is electronica and extraordinary given the timing of its release. It links in with/leads to Oram/Moog/German 70s etc!

Have found this on You Tube today from Hungary, 1975-1983, which is also quite interesting:
