    English Fidelio

    I notice this - this morning - https://operadepot.com/products/beet...cid=5bf23595a8

Unfortunately altough there are said to be no significant "Cons", the sample I tried was very poor, with very dated sound quality, and the words even if in English were hard to make out.

Other than that, the actual performance does sound as though it might have been rather good - but sadly not necessarily a CD [or CD "quality" download] I'd rush to buy.

Interesting. It's difficult for me to imagine Fidelio in English. Spanish perhaps, given the setting?

I suppose the spoken dialogue supports the idea of an English translation. I must admit I usually skip the spoken bits when listening on a CD.

I recall seeing an English language Fidelio from WNO twice in Liverpool in the early 1980s - it was also shown on BBC2 - it was my introduction to the opera and I found it very powerful. I hope the video still exists in the archives - I'd like to see it again.
