The Baez albums at her peak for me were: 5, Farewell Angelina, Joan and Any Day Now - the last of these included 'Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands'. In addition to the many Dylan tracks she covered there were also Donovan and Tim Hardin
Songs.

That is interesting to me as I am not that well versed in her back catalogue although I can talk about Dylan extensively.

Oddly, I also saw Donovan live in a tent on a Sunday night at Glastonbury. 1993 which was my first time there. He was in duet with his then or to be son-in-law Shaun Ryder!

What do you classify as Unequivocal Jazz?

Well, the idea was to show that the rock and pop mainstream (including the fringes of the former) in the past dozen years has been more vibrant than we tend to think given what is provided by the media. I wanted the breadth of it - into the edges of country and reggae and folk and so on plus world and jazz. However, what was principally required in each case was something of a sense of the popular or populist. I would not include a Wheeler, a DeJohnette, an Iyer or an Akinmusire in that assessment any more than I would include Ilham al Madfai, Tiken Jah Fakoly or Takashi Hirayasu. That is not to say that any of these artists don't have considerable reach or the potential for greater reach in a different media climate.

It is a difficult one, this. The inclusion of Gwilym Simcock and Zoe Rahman.......they are hardly anything other than jazz but the former found a broader following at an awards event and the latter probably likewise. Certainly she extends into many other areas, including as it happens, worldly ones. If anything, on purely musical terms, the likes of Gregory Porter and Robert Glasper would more easily qualify for inclusion here but they won't do as I'm not very keen on most of their output. I suppose it is all mainly about how one sees things.

I see what you mean cloughie and it has given me food for thought. It all depends on the personal lens. I was thinking re popularised jazz mainly in terms of annual events like the Mercury awards or points of rock or soul crossover, albeit not jazz funk. Some of the people on your list would be frequently played and at ease on Jazz FM which is a rather different sort of angle, notwithstanding their other credentials. Clare Teal also has a Radio 2 dimension, of course. I might have picked out Diana Krall as one of the people who I would see as nearer to pure jazz but if you look at something like her album "Wallflower" (2015) what is really striking is that almost all of the compositions emanate from the pop/rock sphere.

So I am not sure now.

Back In The Night - Dr Feelgood

Saw this band live in '74 & '75, then never again. Wouldn't swap the experience, even for Reggie's Ring at the Colosseum (well, I'm not completely sure about that )

Edit: The 1975 Hammersmith Odeon Dr Feelgood gig might be the best gig I've ever attended (and I've been to a few, down the years!).
