Lloyd Cole.....I was never a fan of him and yet I always was a fan of him.

    How can you not be?

The really underrated album is "Don't Get Weird On Me, Babe" (1991).

I have probably posted these before. If so, blame the late Peter Sarstedt.

Some Mother's Son: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seMc_UaE3FQ - for me one of the great war songs.

He's a great lyricist - of similar vintage to She's bought a hat - sheer brillance - is Victoria where he rhymes Victoria with Land of Hope and Gloria. Also Dedicated Follower of Fashion has the Davies created word Carnabetian. Pure genius. Songwriting on a par with Cole Porter.

I have to say I found it really easy not to be a fan......

oh dear , that was a bit negative, wasn't it ?
I might try some of the songs that I don't know, but I'm not hopeful.

Another musician I really struggle to like, who I feel I "ought " to like, is The Divine Comedy.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I don't like the way he sings off-key!

                Oh well!

You do realise that The Divine Comedy wrote the theme tune to Father Ted?

The Duckworth Lewis Method is their only album I own. Great fun and witty.

I love 'Celluloid Heroes' from 'Everybody's in Showbiz' - such a sad wee song. Says that Tony Bennett wanted to do a cover but he didn't want to sing the line about Rudolph Valentino looking up ladies' dresses as they sadly passed him by.

Thanks ts, I enjoyed that song; Davies ability to catch the ordinary everyday and make it special marks him out for the wonderful songwriter that he is.

Every so often Danny Baker gets a musical guest on his Saturday morning radio 5 show that he clearly admires. He seems to switch into overdrive. He'll offer that guest his 'Blindfold juke box' offering numbers 1-20 which have elements of the guest's musical life. Graham Nash, Graham Gouldman have had the treatment...and they seem to have really enjoyed it. His encounter with Petula Clark last year had her coming in very suspicious and leaving having had a totally different look at her career from someone who is an admirer. It was, perhaps, my favourite interview of last year...Pet was clearly delighted to have her music visited in this way.

I only mention this because yesterday morning Rick Wakeman got the treatment and he and Baker were clearly having a great time as Baker would play a clip and ask, 'Is that you playing there?' 'Morning has Broken', 'Space Oddity' among others...lots of tales like how he didn't meet Lou Reed. But there was a great story about how he was needing money for his rent and Marc Bolan got him in and he got nine quid (he needed 8) to play 'a gliss on the intro to 'Get it On''. Makes the song. Rick is such an entertaining storyteller.
Get it on was the first T.Rex song I ever heard, and here's a video with the song and it's lyrics. Enjoy! :)R.I.P. Marc Bolan.

Anybody else around like Rumer. Her Bacharach album 'This girl's in love ' is really good. Her voice and vocal accuracy really puts Adele in the shade! OK she has more than a little of Karen Carpenter but I think also some of Dusty Springfield about her delivery.

Talking of Petula Clark have you ever thought of Katie Melua having some of her vocal qualities?
