Me too John - one of those LPs which very difficult to decide the best track - 'Here Today'? 'I just wasn't made for these times'? 'Don't talk'....and how many times have I sung 'Sloop John B' in informal groups down here!?!

      - I love the emotional ambivalence of "I'm waiting for the day" (tender and vindictive; matched by the superb instrumentation). But yes - right from "Wouldn't it be Nice", it's a favourite album of mine, too.

I love XTC and the Beach Boys. Here's another post in my very occasional series "Simple Gifts". I wonder what Elder Joseph Brackett would have thought of it:

...and with 'Pet Sounds', Bob's 'Blonde on Blonde' also appeared this day in '66.

In 1966 I was 16 and both albums are classics. We couldn't resist turning up at Colston Hall last night, the first stop on the UK leg of the Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour. Wilson has said this will be his last European tour and UK dates are more or less sold out. It was a memorable night. Brian and Al Jardine can still very much cut the mustard we got some terrific versions of seminal songs - not just Pet Sounds - from them and their nine-man backing group.

Ya lucky guy, gurney! I saw the Beach Boys twice in the 60s (first band I ever saw live actually), and spent a fair amount of time during the concerts wondering which one Brian was, not able to see him. It was years later that I found out he'd given up the touring so I never have seen him live.

                    Sounds great.

I took my Dad to Brian Wilson's live Smile in the early 2000s. Members of the Wondermints were in Brian's band. They were excellent. Do you know if they are in his current band?

Enjoyed the track. I don't think there is overlap. It was a very good backing band but the only name I can remember is Matt Jardine, Al's son, who was excellent on the high vocal line.

                        Thanks Gurney.

Lillian Lopez who I only recently discovered was Juilliard trained and in her mid forties when turning out the hits with Odyssey:

Beside the hospital lifts that we the visitors and other people were using, the posters simply said "Take a Walk With Me - Muddy Waters". In biro, someone had written on one the words "Bo Diddley". Clearly there is a story but I'm not inclined to over-assess the lyrics of "Who Do You Love?" in this context. Best left to intrigue and hopes of happy outcomes!:

Whilst on the subject of the blues greats, Chuck Berry is 90 in October. Many acts have covered Chuck's songs over the years. Bearing in mind that the Stones haven't turned out a memorable album for many years now a tribute album to Chuck could be really good and a return to their roots. If not the Stones, then perhaps the Blues Band could do one!

And while on the subject of Blues Greats, cloughie, I heard this by John Lee Hooker on Paul Jones Rhythm and Blues last night - 'Turn over a New Leaf'. Hadn't heard it before. Just Grand!
