    The Somewhat Delayed Song Thread

A few weeks ago some of us were kicking around the idea of a thread dedicated to songs.
Good songs are never out of fashion, so the idea was for people to suggest and provide links for songs that they would recommend to other MB members.
I'm not one for rules really, but I thought perhaps one per member per day, to keep it sensible. Or not !!
Any era, genre, from baroque (or earlier ) to present day, the more varied the better.
Maybe stick with songs that aren't perhaps that well known, or that might be new to some people, would be a good idea.
It was mainly Antongould's idea, so if it doesn't work, I'll blame him.

    Ok:
one of my all time favourite songs.
    Hope somebody else likes it.

To respond to the idea, but immediately break the rules, here are two sources of songs and one narrative that isnt a song that will stir memories, and generate laughs, in at least a few of the viewers of these boards:

    Anna Russell CD MDK 47252

Michael Flanders and Donald Swann CD FSB 11

Tom Lehrer LPs at least three, look them up on the internet, they are very funny and wicked and of their time (the 1960s).

By way of a bonus, find Gerard Hoffnung, especially the letters from Tyrolean landladies. "There is a French widow in every bedroom, affording delightful prospects!"

Satie's Dapheneo: an inconsequential conversation between two young children -

Satie: Dapheneo. Soprano: Michèle Laporte. "Version française": concert donné à Paris dans le 9ème, le 13 mars 2010

I always wanted an excuse to put this one out there.

Maybe not completely unknown. One of the greatest British folk songs of all time.

A bewildering array on offer, ts ... I'll choose this one ce soir, as it might be deemed to have an ending that speaks for an army of presenter-frustrated R3 listeners.

            Just to be really sobering:

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I keep reading this threat heading as "The Somewhat Delayed Song Thrush".

In August, it certainly would be!

The voice of Auger (who was born and died in the same years as Lucia Popp, 1939-1993) makes the words of the song all the more moving.
