And so for today's impossible challenge.

People who are known for one particular song but have a better one in their back catalogue?

This great track was originally posted by John Corrigan.

It is a hell of a lot better than "Elusive Butterfly".

i would have thought plenty of people have written better songs than their biggest hit. A fun task though, Lat.

The one that annoys me, because I am such a fan, is the B52s Love shack, which gets played so much, when they wrote shed loads of better songs.

i suppose the Motors had one huge hit with Airport, but wrote several other much better tunes, the pick of them being " dancing the night away", or this neglected gem, right up,there with the best of them....

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

My daughter did an essay at Uni about the video for " Roam". Not really hard work , is it?

A very oddly one sided LP, Cosmic Thing.side one is very ordinary by their standards, but side 2 is pure gold.

Oh, and for anybody wanting a neglected classic of an album, " Bouncing off the Satellites " is it.
Amazingly it never got a UK release, but its a really top class album.

Didnt know KP had anything new out. must give it a whirl. Thanks for the lead.
I saw the B 52s at Hammersmith Palais in 1980, ( or was it 81), one of only 2 UK gigs they did in about 20 years.

            A special night for me.

doesn't pass Lat's test, as Joe Crow ( and in his band guises) isn't that well known for anything much , I think , but THIS is just beautiful, and would have been a Number 1 hit in better world.

Interesting. A bit Robert Wyatt? The B-52s did come back to Britain in 1992 because I saw them at Brixton Academy on Saturday 19 December of that year. Your comments about your daughter's university course are fascinating. As I have said before, we now live in a world in which the admittedly brilliant "Grace" by Jeff Buckley is on the school syllabus.

I obviously meant " only uk dates they did in about 10 years."...

Far too long anyway, not that the public have really supported them in the UK.

my daughter also did an essay on Kraftwerk which was marked by a tutor who had never heard of them !!
She asked to have it remarked by somebody who has heard of them !!!!

                    .....on all the above comments.

Kate's album might just be my pick from the pop/rock bunch in 2015 - it's strong in its genre, moving in historical and age terms, and to be blunt it hasn't a lot of competition!

                          (And Duncan Browne - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAvRncclmSk)*

*It's a quite brilliant song - I love the way Browne's is on the borderline of tasteful and dubious and how Blunstone just by being himself introduces the angel!

                          Latest:

Now that I've viewed it half a dozen times, that Blunstone performance of The Wild Places is triumphant!

A decent and exceptionally talented geezer who at 68 or whatever he was then produces something which one has to say is truly beautiful - I'm very impressed!

                              Some lovely recommendations there.

Only went to Amsterdam once. Stayed in a hotel recommended by the VVV. The place immediately outside the station to which students are initially directed. I was over 30. The hotel was a multi-storey car park combined with a brothel, literally. The twin bed room was smaller than a prison cell and there were dalliances outside the door every night. All the sights were obviously interesting. Cyclists. Attractive Dutch buildings. Tall. "Coffee" houses. Sad women in windows at breakfast time. Anne Franck's House was very moving.

We visited the lower division. That meant the now defunct FC Haarlem at which there was an attempt at setting light to the stand in the seat next door to me although it was all in good spirits and fun. I didn't move. The football was so poor a better one was played by spectators on the sidelines. What could happen next? Well, it was in Haarlem that the nice elderly couple who ran a jazz shop explained how Ruud Brink had been visited by Pim Jacobs in hospital just before his death. In the background we had the "Easy Living" and "Moonlight in Vermont" of Brink and Jacobs with his Trio which inevitably I bought. We all agreed it was poignant that the visit had been made. They at least seemed to know them.

Ajax fans in an Ajax pub with walls covered in Ajax memorabilia told us that where we were staying was a terrible place. One drugs related death every week. They took us under their wing and ferried us to the ground in a series of vehicles. Smashing people. On the last of the three days, the traffic away from the lovely canals was getting a bit much. The big museums couldn't be given sufficient justice in the time available. We turned a corner and there in the quietest of courtyards were Harris and Steve busking beside some roses. I had never heard of them before and indeed have only known of them since because of the net. They were the second of the CDs I bought. From their bag came my introduction to both hammer dulcimer and the great Turlough O'Carolan. It was a beautiful moment, impromptu, and as with the jazz shop talk something had already decided it would happen:

The Duch, the Irish and, ah, the Americans :

                              Northern Lights:

It looks an interesting set but I often think that although classical composers did their bit in collecting folk songs I prefer the versions by Fairport Convention, Pentangle and others on the folk scene of the last 50 plus years.
