Last day.......promise.....but it has to be:

    Barry Gibb - Stayin' Alive - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/enterta...astonbury-2017

God bless all those we liked at the time or didn't like for immature reasons and who we know now have given us so much.

    Music conquers all.

Mention of Barry Gibb - I know he and the Bee Gees gave us a lot over many years but my favourite BGs tracks are the 60s Hits - NY Mining Disaster, To love somebody, Words, First of May ... Many years before Barry developed his surreal falsetto.

"Run To Me" was a good one.

Original post now refers to "security staff" as intended - all those doing jive between audience and stage.

"Girl from The North Country" is a new play at The Old Vic in London, which is using classic Bob Dylan songs in the setting of the Great Depression in America in the early 1930s.

Actress Sheila Atim performing Bob's 1985 song "Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anyone Seen My Love)".

Unusually excited about this - the play, the song and especially the performer of the song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0grZUoUhn_k - clip was posted on YT on 2 August!

Ah yes, one of the best, cloughie. Influenced by Martin Carthy's arrangement of "Scarborough Fair", the original on "The Freewheelin'" was the first I knew and it may just be my favourite version but the differences in the standards of the two are so slight that the versions are more or less equals. They are also very different in style which helps of course.

Lat, my pal, who is a big Bob fan, said that he felt "Girl from The North Country" a bit contrived and that in places it was in danger of being Bob's 'Mama Mia', but he also said that everybody else in the theatre seemed to be really enjoying it.

Tonight I went with the young Miss C for an evening of festivalling in Edinburgh and we took in the wonderful Regina Spektor at the Playhouse. I first heard her song 'Us' back about 10 years ago and bought the CD on the back of that hearing. She still writes and performs great songs, but last evening she reminded me what had drawn me to her - that Russian accent in her soaring singing, that classical training brought into pop.
                I’m coming to BROADWAY! 5 concerts at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on June 20, 21, 22, 25 & 26. Tickets: http://www.reginaspektor.com/broadwayRegina's official ...

It's good to hear that you and your daughter enjoyed the gig, JC. I had a look at the capacity of the Edinburgh Playhouse and would think that it is precisely the sort of venue that suits Regina Spektor. More intimacy than an arena and providing an opportunity to be appreciated without the commercial packaging. I am not sure that I had realized until last weekend the extent to which music is a part of the festival as I had always thought of it in terms of comedy and drama. Kathryn Tickell is, I think, going there as well as managing to be at ts's favourite festival so if those two are both this weekend it will take some doing. The latter is in the south of England. Re the Bob comment, well yes, that is often the way with musicals.

We were opposite Dingwalls. I'd known her since 1984. OK - she was "my big sister". High powered while hating the high powered. Grey at 20. Hands on hips. Welsh. Edgy for someone who one is sort of close to for almost thirty one years plus one. It was the only prize I ever won. Genesis at Wembley on BBC Radio London. Couldn't believe it. I only did it to prove the BBC was fixed. She was the sole Genesis fan I knew although I helped her to be indie. Consequently, I would either be going on my own or had to make the most of a winning pair.

She never forgave me for leading her into a situation where loose women bared their breasts. Later - yes post the footie and Milan - and you will want to go out : we are only sharing a twin room because we are on a budget (in her case annual salary £100K plus) - the Lemonheads. Mind you, she did share Glastonburies. This is very memorable to me because it was the last indoor event I attended. Was it 2004? She also hated the choice of pub. Immediately opposite so how was I to know it had amateur pole dancers? Convenience seemed best.

Then "just keep your mouth shut". "What?" "Just shut up - he's immediately behind you". Yes - and no, Evan didn't speak but his girlfriend did. "Can I bum a light?" "Yes, by all means". They disappeared shortly after, him at least to get on stage. We followed over. Brilliant. We know what that scene was about - very troubled - dare I say it there was just one of class.

                      The Lemonheads:

                      Galveston - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMMREBKziYY

Sublime - some women swooned - but this always works for me because of it was (only) borderline cool and clearly sky high in tunesmithery:

                      Hannah and Gabi - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxyrwktZvsY
                      My Drug Buddy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDxNcaS-yck

(I even forgive the drug references - ditto all of that album - actually masterful - thanks very much)

These were my personal two though - in identity if not quite in the actuality:

                      Hospital - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU1L7v2vO8g

                      The Outdoor Type - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-r2BARj6Oo

Lat-Literal Award for Best American Band of the 1990s Onwards.

Actually even if the words don't meet the moment, this is the real smasher 'cos it weaves in and out - this is where I and a really fascinating man on another forum from Switzerland met spiritually - he's extraordinary, 39.and I won't let him be caged in that scenariro. More later. Otherise, let Dando long outlive the other Dando. Know what I mean. No?" Thermals!."

Having just managed to review the above post:

I am satisfied with its accuracy whilst accepting its utter irrelevance. But I would want to say a brief word about the Swiss guy who I will just call Gordon. I've never met him. Never will do. Thought he probably lived in a castle and could never have guessed he regularly runs marathons. But my mate Darren and I both lament the absence of characters - in his view it is all corporate types and chavs now especially among the young. He's right and he's wrong. This individual - originally Hungarian I think - who has only ever contacted me in words is clearly a bit of a sensitive soul but the real joy is to know that there is someone who is more keen and knowledgeable about 1970s rock music than anyone I have ever known and he wasn't even there then. It is not the person. It's the idea - that spending every Saturday buying up more of that decade at the local flea market. Scary too but one pushes that aside.

So, yes, it is terribly wonderful (and mysterious) in its own way.

                        Thanks Gordon.

Sus'pose (Count Arthur Strong) I should find one that we both love not that it is easy by any means but I do love a light-strewn fairground at "Christmas" minus unromantic chatter:

Elvis was my first musical hero. Indeed my first record was an Elvis EP from 'Follow that Dream'. And although he may have lost control of other parts of his body, I would suggest that his fabulous voice stayed with him to the end of his career. Today it's 40 years since he finally vacated the building. Thought I'd make a brief acknowledgement of that sad day and put one of my favourite songs of his down here.

Got to disagree - the quality of his voice, particularly on some of his later live ballad recordings was awful and his tuning suspect.
