I've suddenly got an enthusiasm for all things Hull.

In these harder times, the Housemartins are likely to provoke nothing more than a sneer or a smirk. Too leftist by far, a rather gobby but wet laddishness long gone and in the case of the lovely ecological "Build" deserving of a punch in the face by the average punter. These points were not wholly lost on us even at the time. Still, one subscribes to what seems right and mostly at its best it stands the test of time. The cynicism of the much lauded but commercially unsuccessful "Flag Day" predated the charidee industry and the spirited rallying cry that was "Get Up Off Our Knees" still has a sense of - albeit now irrelevant - force. The key was in their harmonies. Take account that it was pop music and hence not expected to reach giddy heights. Nor indeed did it reach those heights but it was audaciously game. Then the man who wasn't originally Fatboy Slim left for a very different world:
