I streamed it earlier today; I ought to listen to the Brahms 2 it's coupled with, too.

And here is Leif's performance of the Bruckner 8, in its glory...

I heard him conduct once at the Bath Forum. No appreciation of him would be complete without acknowledging his 'remarkably creative way with the English language' Quotations from Finnish conductor Leif Segerstam - The Classical Music Guide Forums

Oh dear: the Brahms (I'm into the second movement) just won't do. It's far too ponderous and slow (for me).

You must need the Adam Fisher recording - too light and quick for me!

Happy with Boult (listened to frequently when it was my A-level set work), but thanks.

Third Viennese School? Not sure what to make of Segerstam's music. People whose opinions I trust easily persuade me to take seriously what I'm bemused by, but I hear people describing Segerstam's music rather than praising, enthusing or even admiring it.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
