Same orchestra/different conductors: does it work for a symphony cycle?

I have yet to listen to yesterday's final instalment in the Sibelius symphony cycle, but from postings it seems that all three conductors produced very different results. On Sunday, I found myself wishing that Volkov had been conducting the second symphony the previous night, which, despite the speeds taken, seemed to me to be rather lacking in sheer energy (maybe I am too tainted by my favourite recording, the one I got to know the work from: LSO/Monteux).

I wonder if the orchestra really had time to work with each conductor beforehand. Sounds like it took a while for things to settle down last night.

Would be interested to read other thoughts.

Note to moderator: happy for this to be moved to another place (Talking about music?) if felt more appropriate for wider discussion.

Hey Puppet - it was the BBC Scottish SO for 1-4, but the BBC Symphony O. for 5-7 last night; and a recognisably different sound they made (less rich, more open & impersonal) with Vanska too... hope to post on 6 & 7 on the said thread soon...

I did feel that the BBCSSO sounded more at home with Volkov (a previous chief conductor & I think a great talent) than with Dausgaard (a forthcoming one, takes over 9/2016, great with the Swedish CO & Danish NSO (at least on those albums I've heard), haven't heard him much elsewhere)... but this may simply reflect the qualities of the conductor's approach to this particular composer...

      Oops!
Hadn't realised (as I said, I'd missed the concert last night) and had obviously mentally switched off any announcements about it being the BBCSO not the BBCSSO.
And of course Vanska has been associated with the BBCSSO, so I made a false assumption.

That might explain the lack of other replies.
