    Lebrecht on Rattle

There's an article in today's Times that I hope I've been able to share.
The Lebrecht Interview with Simon Rattle is on Radio 3 on August 24 at 9.45pm.

As the conductor returns to the UK to lead his German orchestra at the Proms, he talks about his career battles, Liverpool upbringing and fears for Britain

As an aside, for the last two articles I had to accept all cookies or "Refuse and pay" (I delined to accepr and refused to pay )
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      Hmm.
More relevant than just an aside: thanks for 'sharing'!

I use the 'Create shareable link' option, which I have assumed does exactly that, but maybe there are conditions.
Would it hurt to accept all cookies?

Some articles on the Ipswich Star website can be read only if one pays a subscription, but can be read in full and subscription-free by visiting the website of its sister publication, the East Anglian Daily Times.

And it used to work perfectly - thank you.

On principle, yes. And I have to be really interested to go through the ritual of turning off all the 'Legitimate Interest' buttons. Usually, if I can't see Reject All I leave the site.

From the web: "Marketing cookies are usually third-party persistent cookies. They enable websites to remember a user's preferences, login information, and browsing history." You pays yer money....

No because you can accept them , read the article and then wipe them. Not a bad idea to wipe all cookies periodically anyway though it means entering passwords again on some sites. The tech companies partly rely on our laziness to gather the vast amounts of date they have on us.

We've had men digging up the road outside the house, and they've been happy to accept the Oaties we've given them with their tea/coffee.

I normally ignore a clickbait screen which I see, momentarily, on my mobile, but it was the news of Benjamin Luxon's death on that Lebrecht site* which caught my eye ( *a site which, I get the impression, will not be named in these parts). I haven't looked at it since, but the comments, including from fellow professionals were entirely positive and warm in the recollection of a good man and fine artist. .

*That* site is quite useful for seeing who has passed on. I also first saw the news of Benjamin Luxon on there, and also April Cantelo.

I do so regularly in response to CCleaner's prompts!

I was contemplating Rattle’s career the other day. I think the rise of the very young KM prompted these thoughts.
Is it possible that his career peaked in the Midlands? Not that he hasn’t done good things subsequently, but somehow I have the impression that the enormous potential he demonstrated early on was never quite realized

I've found only his Beethoven disappointing. The rest I think most rewarding. I expected him to make a really outstanding Beethoven series to cap his Vienna recordings, but when it came I felt , well, what you've said in your last few words there.

Until I read this article I had no idea he'd had so many problems with the Berliners. In view of that, the results he obtained are creditable, and I'll always treasure his Mahler 10 and Gurrelieder. . But yes, now I think of it, his Heldenleben, his La Mer, his Haydn, aren't exactly the best , are they?

I hope he'll be happier in Munich.

Indeed - some of us would prefer not to pay any money to Mr M
