According to the interview he distinguished between R3 and R4's treatment of speech programmes - I hope that he can recover some of the serious discussion of ideas (including possibly science as well as the arts) from R4 which usually finds itself duty bound to explain every simple point thus underestimating the intelligence + knowledge of its audience - tho I hope not in that generally terrible magazine format used for the 10pm slot on R3 with presenters who too often are so attracted by their own voice as not to even listen to others.

Actually quite a lovely run, with its views of the Cleveland Hills and Roseberry Topping - and (if you're going in that direction) you can always stop off at Great Ayton.

That's a very circuitous route! If you were travelling from Middlesborough you might profitably choose the Whitby Road, which does indeed go near the places you mention.

For a few days (in 2012?) I substituted Roseberry Topping as my avatar. Its shape slightly resembles the Matterhorn.

Still no signs of removal of such drivel as playing music backwards in essential classics though .

The only route from Middlesbrough to Stockton (and back!) I know - done it about five times over the years.

The normal way is along the A66 - nothing picturesque about this.

Well - that's "normal" for you!

(Avatar duly noted - and much appreciated.)
