Igor played the viola in the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante, a fine performance, though the LP did not have great sound, I seem to remember.
If I recall correctly, Igor played the violin whilst his father played the viola. However, I’m sure you’re correct that he played the viola on at least one recording of Mozart’s masterpiece.
André Previn, piano, Julie Rosenfeld, violin & Gary Hoffman, ‘cello. RCA Red Seal.
I found this cd in a sale room in Lancaster. It was priced at 10p. Superb though it is, I still regret not trying to bargain the price down! (Actually, it was a charity stall so I gave them a £2 coin and donated the change!)
The Cenci, Havergal Brian's Shelley opera, a late work, and a wonderful performance with Helen Field and David Wilson-Johnson.
Many years ago, when only a few Brian symphonies had been made available , the idea of hearing his fifve operas seemd an impossible dream. Yet I've been able to hear three of them and have hopes of hearing Faust and Turandot some day. The Cenci seems to me the best of those I've heard so far. Brian brings to life splendidly the refined, colourful and slightly claustrophobic atmosphere of Renaissance Italy.
Good morning Smittims. Havergal Brian's opera Faust is available on a Dutton Epoch recording with the English National Opera Chorus and Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins. Sadly, Turandot has never been performed and only short orchestral excerpts are available on cd.
Vivaldi , La Cetra, Rachel Podger et.al. Listening prompted by a question in the La Stravaganza thread, but what a wonderful recording.
Playing the same, and it now plays perfectly after clearing the cache of the control (Playfi) app. thanks to a suggestion by Sir Velo. Hoping now that La Tribune will pick Podger's for its exploration of La Stravaganza on Sunday. Thanks.
