You're OK. If you were a snob you'd hear Walton's Concerto in Summertime?

I hear Franz Waxman's Ride of the Cossacks when I listen to Shostakovitch's 11th symphony as I believe did Shostakovitch, does that make me (and Shostakovitch) inverted snobs?

I will confess that the Overture is the only part of William Tell that I know. The Lone Ranger theme tune of course only uses the more famous horse-galloping section. I can actually remember playing the opening slow bit aged about seven as part of my very stunted solo piano career. All this will change on 5 July at ROH when we are lined up for the full opera - all four hours of it.

Why? What is the definition of "snob" in this context? Who is looking down on whom/what?

Rachmaninoff's fourth concerto - I would never have made the "Three Blind Mice"/"Two Lovely Black Eyes" connection if it hadn't been for the Penguin Guide telling me that I might.

The thing I think of when I hear this is "Serge was really having an off-day when he thought this up."

Had Sammy Fain heard the finale of Mahler 3 before he wrote I'll be seeing you or was the note sequence coincidental?

What about my tendency, upon seeing a loaf of Hovis, to wonder whose Dvorak cycle was best?

I think if it makes you wonder about the make of the bicycle, it's a bit anorakish.

I once had great difficulty persuading a work colleague that The Apprentice music is not called The Apprentice.
He'd never heard of Prokofiev btw.
Called me a clever clogs, not sure if that's as bad as being called a snob.

You should have just called him a yob and left it at that.
