The extracts on the Abbado disc sound fabulous.

I listened to the Abbado suite late last night, and was bowled over!

Please note, the SACDs are hybrid. Contrary to the statement on the amazon.co.uk site they do not require an SACD compatible player. However, with Prometeo the surround option does offer up rather more than 2 channel stereo does.

Tricky choice, the latter is a little big and Romantic but with better dialoguing between instrumentalists, bit of a classic set really (led by Zelenka-nut Heinz Holliger, no bad thing!)
There's an amazing piece called "Hippochondrie"....for 8 players...
just been listening to some Zelenka, including Hippocondrie.
i can see why you got the bug.
Lots to listen to on Spotify, thankfully.

Did we say farewell to Else Marie Pade?

                  I don't think we did.

Karl Amadeus Hartmann - Symphony #6

I bought this set when it first came out in 1999 and I’ve very much enjoyed dipping into it since then.

Astonishing music. I’ve had this recording a few years now, but endlessly find new things in this music.

I find his music quite unreal at times. He wrote a violin concerto didn't he, iirc?

                              Vagn Holmboe - Chamber Symphonies
Lapland Chamber Orchestra, John Storgards. Label: Dacapo.

                              Listening: Stream - Apple Music.

Fabulous music, and completely new to me. First listen through. I’m getting aromas of Nielsen, Bartok and Hindemith, Simpson (or is that just more of the Nielsen?), but definitely without any derivation.

Not quite sure how this music has avoided me up to now.

Quite fancy getting this on a Hi-Res download. I struggle with streaming (only recently got entirely comfortable with downloads). I guess it doesn’t tick the ‘collector’ box for me.

TBF there is a good deal of Holmboe to get to grips with.
Easy to miss something. His music ought to get a bit more exposure on R3.
Have put the Chamber symphonies on my listening list.
