Luc was a good friend of mine. He was also an intrepid pianist in his earlier days. We first met at the Darmstadt courses in the summer of 1984 - I'd been trying to interest pianists on the course there to play a piece I'd brought along, without any success until Luc arrived three days before the concert and learned the score sitting in the cafeteria with a supply of cognac and cigars.
