What Pastoralguy and I really want is a new set recorded by the Berlin Phil/Rattle,c'mon Simon before it's too late
We have two tickets for the Euromillions tonite.

A quick 'phone call to Sir Simon and the General manager of Die Berliner Philharmoniker is all it would take!

The Trio Sonata in 17th-Century Italy

The Trio Sonata in 17th-Century Germany

I enjoy listening to these composers in groups rather than individually.

      Does this count?

If I win I'll do just that, and if there's enough money left I'll also pay for Khatia Buniatishvili to record a complete Alkan edition

If you like these, ds, than this one might be interesting for you too

            Eine Kleine Nachtmusic?

I enjoy Morton Feldman's chamber music and Peter Maxwell Davis' string quartets in the night/early morning.

            Currently listening to this.

But Zelenka is on the beaten track (relatively speaking )

I love watching this Czech orchestra playing their composer (mind you, their Handel is very good, too)
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Zelenka: Requiem pour Auguste II | Collegium 1704

Many thanks for the link. I thoroughly enjoyed it (went to bed rather too late).

Wouldn’t it be good if Radio 3 had Off the Beaten Track instead of Essential Classic for three hours every morning? Unlike essential (for whatever or whomever), selection is endless. Let listeners decide what is essential for them (us).

Wonderful stuff but hardly "off the beaten track" IMV

Is Paul Dessau off the beaten track? Just ordered the Brilliant Edtion from jpc
I have some of his stuff on ancient East German Eterna LPs but looking forward to reacquainting.

Indeed. If one desires an "off the beaten track" recording of the work one has to seek out the S.E.M. Ensemble/Kotik, where the solo string quintet complement is boosted to full string section. It's interesting, but it ain't Feldman.

I will throw in some Feldman recordings. not because the music of "off the beaten track" but because the solution to Fedman's dynamics resorted to by the string players, to use baroque bows, certainly is, as is the fact that the disc format is DVDV with 2 channel 48/24 LPCM sound and minimal video content:

Volume 3, with the Trio and the rest of the works for piano and strings, is eagerly awaited.

I enjoy listening to the music of Irish composer John Kinsella.
The 4th Symphony is a very fine piece IMO.

Neeme Jaarvi championed the Tubin Symphonies some years ago. No one else seems to have picked up his cause. His style is Late Romantic and very chromatic.

Obviously, it's all relative to the listener, but generally speaking, Feldman is definitely off the beaten track.

For example, have a look through the "what are you listening to now" thread and the general discussion in this forum, BBC R3 playlists, CFM and the annual Proms concerts, and you've got the beaten track.
