Maderna's M9 was my favourite for a long while, but these days I'm finding Norrington an interesting take. Especially when one agrees that no single performance or indeed approach can capture it.
You're always talking about recordings Beefeeee!

Is that the same as Sydney Grew's often used "we"?...

Richard, I'm in agreement that politics, in its broadest meaning, is part of life and part of music and culture too, but a reading of my entire post makes clear that infiltration of the sort of narrow definition of 'politics' in the shape of the UK General Election into threads here has precious little to do with the wider spectrum and instead becomes a vehicle for the disparagement of Nigel, Ed, Dave, Nicola and the rest. It isn't long before we then get the 'witty' put-downs with tedious mentions of 'kippers' etc.

There is a 'no politics' condition as part of the House Rules, like it or not, but far too many posters are ignoring it by 'sneaking in' political subjects which constantly flout this Rule.

I repeat that I would restore the basement and let those who want to discuss it, discuss it to their heart's content.

I talk just as much about music, concerts and composers.

I think I'm coming from the same place as you, but I don't think there should even be a basement. Politics should simply be banned in here. There's plenty enough to talk about. IMV, the forum was very good up until a week or so ago, when politics started creeping back in. I think ff's trust in human nature is misplaced.

                  They are.

If you want all threads to be closed if they wander into political debate, I'll happily close them - for you

I thought that was what was going to happen. Isn't that what the odd voice from the silent majority is feeding back?
IMV, the forum was a much better place until that minimum wage thread came along and also people using the University Challenge thread to put across their politics about class and all. If those two threads had been nipped in the bud......

But if your saying you'll just close them to me, then no.

I'll take that as a directive then.

Go and talk about music, the arts and don't bother to suggest you can't have them without politics.
