    Where is everyone?

These boards seem to be ever more quiet; is it a sign of the times that perhaps, we have all run out of steam? Or, more optimistically have more important things to attend to......?

I'm still here, but for myself, there is a seasonal effect at work: spring is here and the garden is screaming for attention, so there is less time to sit at the computer.

Maybe everyone has gone off to watch things which we are not allowed to talk about. For myself, I've been listening to Sibelius 1, conducted by Kurt Sanderling - and now Mozart's Jupiter Symphony also by Sanderling, which is a very strange performance/recording.

I'd agree Visnick, the same thought has crossed my mind in the past week or two.

I see that people are tip-toeing round starting some sort of political threads in the hope they don't get barred but perhaps we can all get our thinking caps on and get some new musical threads going! Haven't had a Mahler thread in ages...

The Proms Guide is out next Thursday so that should get us all talking again.

I was hoping someone might start talking about Friday night's concert - premiere of David Matthews Symphony No.8.... and a really intriguing programme of Gruber & Schwertsik...

              Musical threads

But there's too much talk about recordings, rather than music. I enjoy a certain amount of those threads (Jane's Japanese stuff, techie stuff, etc) but the balance is wrong, IMV. Not enough concert going talk, music tallk, etc. Too much "what is your favourite Mendelssohn Italian recording" and the like.

Also, IMV the forum was much more enjoyable in recent weeks, before the 'politics' started creeping back. I think some robust moderating is called for. We know where it will end up, we've been there before. Politics and religion are two things not to talk about at dinner.

Is that a euphemism for the spanking you were enthusing about on another thread?

                    !!!

...and which of us would want to contribute posts to threads on this forum whil in mid-repast anyway? Worse than checking texts / messages or using the laptop while eating, I'd say...

I'd be all for a greater proportion of discussions of live concerts, though...

It's the end of the holidays! Back to the hum drum! The Summer Term or at the school where I work, since 2013 we have called it Trinity Term! Not a bad name. Hence Autumn term is Michaelmas Term, Winter term is Lent and Summer Trinity(all I am saying is hat I work in a posh skool!)

Quite. Much better to discuss the really great composers like Herbert Howells.

I had a couple of kippered lefties earlier this morning. They repeat.

People who discuss Herbert Howells and the like are discussing music and composers. IMV, that is far better than discussing 'what is your golden Elgar recording, and why is it golden?'
