Very sad news, a great musician and wonderful man
when I was a student I used to go and do the sound for Johns gigs in pubs around Devon, he was a real inspiration and great company and will be sadly missed by many.

Sad indeed. I had the pleasure of recording (I think) three albums with him in the 70s and 80s. A nice man and a musician to admire.

          John Renbourn RIP

Not jazz but certainly someone well influenced by blues and blues finger styles.

          Guardian just now..

"The English guitarist and songwriter John Renbourn has died aged 70 at his home in Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Best known for his work with the folk group Pentangle , he had been on tour
with the guitarist and singer Wizz Jones.

Renbourn was due to play at the Ferry in Glasgow on Wednesday night but colleagues became concerned when he failed to turn up. Police found him at his home on Thursday morning, whe it is thought he had died from a heart attack."

He was on the Cerys Matthews R6 show last weekend sounding fine and enthusiastic. A warning to all us older "boomers" that the times they are a ticking. As Lightnin' Hopkins said, "that clock going to get you one way or the other."

Get those old geezer requests into JRR now!

          BN.

Sad news indeed. I was recalling with a guy just two evenings back seeing John Renbourn on a rainy night in a leaky marquee by the side of the River Ericht at the Blairgowrie Folk Festival many a long year back and how wonderful it was. And you're right BR, he was on fine form on Cerys last week... when he could get a word in.

                Sad news indeed.

Is is there a need for an obituary sub-forum on the site? Somewhere where all shufflings off this mortal coil could be collated.
