Wiltshire Music Service does a fantastic job, bringing young people together through the love of music.
In my experience the professionals involved are inspirational, and they deserve so much better than this divisive and pointless penny pinching exercise, saving just £140 k PA.
I can only suggest that you read the comments, and give it your support, please.

My surprise is that Wiltshire still has a music service. Our county got rid of all its peris and regional music making centres years ago. Madness. Ticking the box for music...tick, done....consists of dishing out a load of ukeleles to 35 kids once a week for a term, being instructed by a class teacher with no ability whatsoever. Ofsted EXCELLENT.

Oh, that's like Wider Opportunities - the diversion created as a tick box to show that "every child has the opportunity to learn and instrument". Whether or not the class teacher has no ability whatsoever is a secondary issue. Learning a musical instrument requires small group teaching.Originally posted by ardcarp View PostComment

Norfolk got rid of their's a little while back. A couple of my friends brought the Wiltshire proposal to my attention and I willingly signed. This country is in danger of returning to the musical dark ages.Comment

Thanks for promoting this. Both our children profited from free instrumental teaching at our local comprehensive. Having got started in this way, our daughter showed sufficient talent and enthusiasm to go on to have private lessons and participate up to the age of 18 in the local Youth Orchestra in Swindon. I have to give a talk about FoR3
and its concerns to a Performing Arts group in Surrey. As it will be music-oriented, some mention of the beleaguered state of local provision seems valid. Other areas in a similar position (Bristol seems not to be at present)?
