Kirklees Council (Huddersfield and surrounding areas) has just voted to cut its annual £300,000 grant to Kirklees Music School from 2016-17. Local newspaper report here.
My twin sons are moving on to study music at tertiary level this autumn, one at RNCM and one in the US, having studied and played with KMS for twelve years. Much of this would not have been possible without help towards lesson costs and a scholarship scheme, both funded by Kirklees Council. It's heartbreaking to know that future generations may not have the same opportunities unless their parents can afford the full costs.

"We are not the only organisation to be hit, by any means, but removing every penny of support seems incredibly harsh to me."
I wonder how they will continue ...It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Salisbury Arts centre has suffered a cut of £89k in its budget, which is the entire arts cut for Wiltshire.
The International festival an 3 other centres are keeping their funding.
not at all good.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

It would seem though that the Salisbury centre has some reserves, so is safe for now, at least.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
