It seems rather a pity - as well as being somewhat odd - that Bellier's piece omits all reference to relations between Françaix and Messiaen, given the references to Messiaen with her article.

I do so agree - but I suppose the provenance of that piece may have something to do with it: the Polignac-Singer Foundation were never big fans of Messiaen.

Of course, as has been discussed here and elsewhere in the past, the truly big question re. Jean Françaix is the pronunciation of his name. Even the French get it wrong, at least as far as the pronunciation he used, i.e it's sort of Frahn-sex, not Fron-say.

Yes, it is indeed properly the former, as Bryn noted. Think Aix-en-Provence, and the pronunciation of "Aix" there. Same as with Françaix.
