The R3 'celebrations' appear to be lasting a fortnight ... some 'Day'! ...

I think if it had been two weeks round-the-clock it might have become tiresome but it looks mainly to be one or two usual slots, EC's Artist otW, CotW &c., which wouldn't have had an eyelid batting if they had been on at any time.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A service from King’s College Cambridge with music composed by female composers.

But why KCC? Wouldn't a choir with girl trebles have been more fitting?
Yes, thank you, I assumed that it was somehow tailored for the occasion (I do know what 'bespeak' means', but it's a rather quaint way of putting things. )

If Radio3 is serious about this project, I expect to see prior to the broadcast, the playlist of all the related programmes with appropriate information (not promotion blurbs).

Two weeks doesn't seem enough - perhaps a whole year with one programme a week (at least) dedicated to women, & then do the same the following year, & then the year after that ...

                    Here's todays Guardian:

For decades – no, make that centuries – the classical music world has sidelined women, if not ignored them completely. But the balance may be finally shifting

(In the print edition, they have used the least flattering pic of Vasily Petrenko they could find!)

This concert has been getting a lot of "see foot, take aim, fire" comments on social media

Lets play a load of music by dead men to celebrate women

I wonder what reaction there would be were Radio 3 to devote the whole of International Women's Day to presenting music by women composers from right across the Euroclassical tradition, past and present - or whether the idea has ever occurred to them.

Edit My apologies! - there's this:

                          Women composers thread

Not much has been said on The Forum about R3's celebration of women composers:

Learn about the lives and works of some of the great female composers @bbcradio3

                          and

Letters: Similar attention in the past has rapidly faded; it seems the controllers think ‘we did women last month’, and then feel free to ignore them again

                          and

                          and

There. It has now. (But more welcome.)

What was wrong with this thread, where I'd already posted the Guardian article to which the letters you link to above were a response?

Absolutely nothing, Jean, and I do apologise for mot having focused on it.

Maybe ff can ride to the rescue?

Nothing at all wrong with that thread, but this thread does have a better title, going forward.
