    Igor Levit to record Rzewski

At the end of Igor Levit's lunchtime recital at the Wigmore Hall yesterday there was mention that he is tackling two new recording projects incl. Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated. I'm really looking forward to that since I heard him play that piece some time ago now. There already are some fine recordings by a.o. Ursula Oppens and M Andre-Hamelin, but Levit, also tackling the Diabelli Variations, won't disappoint.

Rzewski has also issued his own recording of that piece, which I heard on part of on the radio.

There are now lots of good ones, so while I'm glad Levit's having a go, it's a pity he's not doing some of the composer's more neglected stuff (imo..)

Fred has had at least 4 recordings of his own performances of the work released on disc (one of which is a DVD).

I have several recordings of The People…, each of which (including Rzewski's own) has something unique to offer. I'm delighted to learn that Igor Levit is also having a go. The maturity of his Beethoven readings suggests that he could have an interesting perspective on The People….

He does - having heard him. And he's including it in this Wigmore Hall recital - book your ticket now! :-)
