Music Matters - Sat 24th Jan

Quite an interesting edition today...Tom Service back on home ground.... which included La Philharmonie, a new make of grand piano and a chat with Elgar Howarth. I have always had the greatest admiration for EH, a thoroughly practical muscician! The new grand piano looks a bit like the interior of La Philharmonie; all asymmetric curves. The test will surely be whether world-class pianists will enjoy playing it, but I can't help thinking it would catch on better if it had a brand name everyone could pronounce.

Tom Service visits the new Philharmonie de Paris and hears from conductor Elgar Howarth.

Certainly a stunning looking instrument! John Turville seemed well impressed with it, anyway.

Looks about to take off! Shame about the toilet for a piano stool.

Re the new piano, I would rather someone revived and developed the 2-keyboard Moor piano, or the 6-keyboard Janko piano.

I was conducted by EH back in 1975 with Harry's Grimethorpe Aria. that's a piece and a half!! And I found it really good that they are advertising RNCM's Festival of Brass as well.
