Sun 10 April - Brett Dean

SMP talks to Brett Dean about his work.

"Brett Dean has quickly established himself as one Australia's foremost musicians and composers. His most recent opera, "Bliss", with a libretto by Amanda Holden inspired by a story by Australian writer Peter Carey, will be broadcast [Hear & Now] on Radio 3 next weekend."
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It sounded alright to me. Recollections was interesting but I heard this at the local riverside park and you needed it quiet to hear what was going on.

The Wolf Lieder I was going to miss, after being subjected to all those awful German Lieder programmes but it wasn’t that at all. It was more like Pierrot Lunaire so that was good fun. Lots of marches in the longest of the 5mvts, mvt 4.

Should have recorded it but I was outside.

Amanda Holden has written the libretto for next weeks Brett Dean opera. Very busy girl, what with being an actress and a judge and all.
