Dumbing down.../Olivia Colman Proms Presentation spoof.

Not sure where best to put this, but here is perhaps as good a place as any. Nails hit squarely on head.

I hope that certain people have heard this - though it will probably go over their heads.

It's brilliant, and all too close to the truth.

So appallingly, appallingly true in so many respects. And VERY funny.

Well, as it was on Radio 4, I'm hoping that news might reach him without my help!

And let's not forget R4's Ed Reardon's Week skit last year. Ed is in the police station complaining about his landlord putting his rent up and when this fails he substitutes a complaint against Radio 3 for 'cultural vandalism' - only to find R3 is now the nick's favourite station. Wonderful for relieving stress. Then the sergeant interrupts because he wants to phone in his answer to the quiz question "What Instrument?".

I wonder which kind of joke they appreciate most at Radio 3: the old days of Dead Ringers making fun of R3 being R3 - complete with low key presentation and pauses - or today's comedians laughing at its 'accessibility' efforts.

Tellingly, the Radio 4 audience seemed to appreciate the jokes ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Truth cuts both ways , the remarks about throwing out people who clap in inappropriate places
and turning a 'private, elitist festival into a roaring commercial success'
are as damning as the pillorying of the presenter.

Stephen: yes, that wasn't lost on me. The sketch is all the better for managing to hit two targets at once.
