Interesting stats and a factual basis for discussions about programming - its a shame that R3 doesn't adopt and publish the info. Well done for sustaining what is quite an undertaking.

Suffy has given up a fine view of frequent musical offerings, but the occasional visitors are hidden in the depths of his computer. Today's offering are less diverse but R3 is not as bad as 15 American orchestras that managed to give performances to Carl Orff 50 times in 2 years, but - O FORTUNA! - of only ONE of his works! That remains the stuff of another radio service in the U K.
Fantastic work, Suffy, thanks from me too.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

If any Boarders wish to know the figures for any of the under 50's please let me know. A good example of the change in R3 could be represented by Tippett, who although he did better than in 2009-12, the vast majority of pieces/chunks played where 'safe' Tippett, the Concerto for Double String Orchestra, A Child of Our Time, Suite in D. The same with Schoenberg, plenty of Verklarte Nacht for example.

I've just put together a spreadsheet of every covering the last 6 years of all composers who had at least one year with 50 works/chunks broadcast, showing the totals for each year whether they reached 50 or not in other years. I'll have a play with excel and see if I can get a clear graph to upload.

Interesting as an aside to see Abel symphonies exceed the number of broadcasts for symphonies by Bruckner, Nielsen and Rachmaninov (and not in an anniversary year either).
I know these are completely unreasonable requests, but the remarks by Suffolk about the prevalence of particular works in making up the numbers for several composers' statistics make me wish that a couple of other columns could be included: 1) the percentage of the total composer broadcast figure made up by 10 works or fewer and 2) the total number of broadcasts for the most frequently played work (plus title if possible).
As I said, completely unreasonable

We do still have stored somewhere the lists compiled by the former member known as Ludwig fan Beethoven, which concentrated on the individual works. I wonder how different the picture is now?It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Aeolium - I can use my warhorse list for some composers and give you a percentage based on those.
Frenchie - I'm converting some data into graphs for inclusion, once I can get the charts to fit the pdfs.
