Musical Anniversaries 2015

John Sheppard and Cipriano de Rore both born in 1515 (probably).

Looking at the R3 figures for Sheppard (which I'm currently putting together as usual), they look as if they thought it was 1514. Mind you the increase in Scriabin & Sibelius last year it almost seems like someone may have got the dates wrong, as also with Arvo Part (80 this year), whose music greatly increased on R3 last years.

R3's recent record with American composer anniversaries is pretty appalling save for the odd 'well known on CFM' ones, so I don't hold out much hope for the Diamond Centenary except for a few broadcasts of the inevitable Rounds for String Orchestra, just about the only Diamond that R3 ever broadcast nowadays.

It is also Humphrey Searle's centenary as well as Jack Brymer and the still underrated Charles Groves.

Also forgot to add that it is Magnard's 150th birth anniversary, I wonder if R3 can do better than with his death centenary last year and the 300th anniversary of G C Wagenseil.

Tubin as COTW would be fantastic, and long overdue recognition for by far Estonia's greatest composer. This year is his 110th birth anniversary.
