      What would be interesting (if only it were possible to compile anything remotely approaching comprehensiveness) is a list of musicians who have over the years refused these honours, especially knighthoods; any takers?...

        A list of those who refused honours was published a few years ago. It's probably online somewhere.
        It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            I see RVW, Humphrey Lyttelton and David Bowie ...
            It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
