Mind you - what happened to them after he left!

      SkyBBC, anyone?

Or at least make it more egalitarian. Just have one reward - 'The Grand Order of the Hippopotamus'?

Did you mean Vice President, Artists and Repertoire at DG?

I can't find any recordings for which he was actually the producer.

I presume that RW's 'honour' is for 'dis-service to music and being economical with the truth about it'. I wonder if after he's wrecked Aldeburgh, he'll turn to politics?

Peter Holman was my personal tutor for a while at Colchester many years ago. Really nice, modest guy, got on very well with him as I was one of the few students that took an interest in the early music he was presenting and enlightening us on.

Why should he 'wreck' Aldeburgh? The environment there is surely quite different from the BBC and so, I imagine, is the funding situation.

If these awards had any real value, then Tony would certainly deserve one for his lifelong and ongoing services to Music.

So how about a list of suitable candidates then?

I'm always struck with how much this nonsense is an establishment fest, endless military "honours" with a few crumbs chucked out to the rest

So who would get the "services to music" award this year from you folks?

I lost faith in the New Years Honors when they gave Bruce Forsythe a Knighthood. I at one time thought they went to outstanding people. But not anymore.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

                            Too subtle, Calum.

                            Happy New Year, btw.

5ft 11? I'd say RW certainly was outstanding enough to have been given a knighthood then. My impression would be that Alan Davey was more of an MBE - but he may grow into the job!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
