I see that Rodney Friend, Alan Fearon and Roger Wright all appear in the list. Those were the only names that I recognized among those receiving honours for services to music.

Aldeburgh Music chief executive and former BBC Proms director Roger Wright, who receives a CBE, said he was "thrilled to be honoured for my work in the service of music".

Presumably that as a recording producer for Universal.

Peter Holman has received an MBE.

Doesn't that show how farcial the whole system is? The lowest honour for someone who has devoted at leat 40 years to music (I remember him in the very early 70s), compared with a higher honour for a young comedy actor like James Corden.

I'd scrap the whole thing.

Note that RW is still one step short of his K. Could follow the 'Kenyon precedent' - Drummond was made CBE while still controller, I think - the K came later.

Fair enough, he was a great servant of the LPO as its youngest-ever leader, though I sometimes thought his intonation was suspect - eg in the LPO VW/Boult cycle, including the Serenade to Music, which would otherwise have been my favourite recording of a 'desert island' piece.

As for Roger the dodger, when he's eventually knighted (often seems to follow a CBE), I'll get my coat... and possibly rip it to shreds!

...presumably for his work at the Arts Council. These guys seem to receive honours for what they've just left behind, sometimes in tatters.

In fairness, he wasn't responsible for the huge cuts in Arts Council funding. Something was going to be 'left in tatters'. A question of, 'Please, not us'?

In addition, Peter Holman did so much to promote home-grown music with his wonderful "English Orpheus" series for Hyperion. An MBE really is a paltry recompense, and as you say, particularly so compared to the likes of James Corden.
