But ain't it hard to choose?
Isn't it just. How on earth did I miss out Jerry Lee Lewis

Way Down Yonder in New Orleans - Fats Domino

(Or is this too R&B? "Pure" R&R's a surprisingly small category)

Is it coincidence that all these lists are of American songs -except 1!! Where is Tommy Steel and Max Bygraves and Charlie Drake? Frankie Howard's "Three Little Fishes" doesn't qualify - it's 1949. My coat's already on .

The best of British rock 'n' roll was probably 60s - mostly covers before then 'though Tommy Steele's 'Singing the Blues' was very good. Johnny Kidd's 1960 'Shakin' All Over' was one of the best examples of British R'n'R with some great guitar effects. Also Lonnie Donegan's skiffle should not be discounted in the evolution of British R'n'R. Whatever happened to Lord Rockingham?

Not to be put in the "Dustbin" then? That song's got a bit of NON PC in it - but reflects local topicality!!

Interesting that van Morrison and others claim Lonnie to be a bigger influence than Elvis - I tend to agree!
