    Karajan documentary! BBC4 Friday 5th December 2014 at 1930-2100

    Hi all

Thought you might appreciate this early Crimbo present:

Profile of the controversial, enigmatic conductor Herbert von Karajan.

Apologies if it's already been highlighted.

    Best wishes

Here's hoping there'll be no mention of Nazis and ski clubs.

I think Tom has his go at it tomorrow on Music Matters.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            Karajan's Myth and Magic

I don't know if this has been flagged up elsewhere, but John Bridcut's film is being shown on Friday 5th December at 7.30 on BBC4.

                Karajan's Myth and Magic

Either way, I also strongly recommend a reading of Richard Osborne's biography, ' Herbert Von Karajan - A Life in Music' (Pimlico paperback, 1999) for enlightenment and deep pleasure over 850pp.

Also looking forward to John Bridcut's documentary.

Coincidentally, the documentary is now being discussed on Music Matters! Ta, ta!

                  I don't think it's a coincidence, more a seamless promotional campaign...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Was that seamless or shameless? Actually, fair enough, given that BBC4 has probably spent a bob or two on this programme. Not one to scour (or even open) the Radio Times, I was glad to be alerted to this on CD Review this morning. I just wish there were more programmes on TV featuring or discussing proper music. We are in thankful-for-small-mercies territory.

                            keep wishing , Ards.

BBC1 , (for example) has a remit to show a mighty 40 hours of music and arts programmes per year.
