    William Wordsworth anyone??

No, not that one: the composer 1908-88, great-great-grandson of the poet's brother Christopher.

Have just bought the Lyrita disc of his 2nd and 3rd symphonies (rather a big gamble at a whole quid) and am very impressed on one hearing. Admittedly, some of that might be due to a superb Lyrita recording avec beaucoup de bass drum, but the music has something to do with it too! Yet till now he's been represented in my record collection just by three songs in the outer limits of Ferrier's discography. Amazon doesn't reveal very much more, even though Raphael Wallfisch seems to have gone big on his cello/piano works, with apparently two different recordings of his 2nd sonata (Naxos and BMS).

Here's an online 'Life and Works': http://www.musicweb-international.co...rth_Conway.htm He does seem to be yet another big victim of the 1960s reaction against tonal composers Yet how could I (possibly?) resist someone whose most characteristic utterance was "Possibly"?

Any other WW enthusiasts out there?? (I did try searching this forum but couldn't face all 70+ screens of the British/ Commonwealth thread, particularly when it might lead only to Finzi's Imitations of Immorality)
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Yes - I was impressed when I heard probably those very same recordings when I last heard them (over thirty years ago ). Not just a "victim" as you suggest; he seems to have got stuck between two stools - neither sufficiently admired for the enthusiasts of the post-war Avant Garde, nor particularly embraced by the "Cheltenhamistas" either. Even youTube doesn't help - the sole reference to "William Brocklesby Wordsworth, composer" leads to a site with "no recordings"!

      Hi LMP.

There's precious little WW out there.
I have that Lyrita cd of the symphonies, haven't played it in ages, prompted by your post went to dig it out and can't find the darn thing !!!

I can recommend the BMS disc of the 2nd cello sonata, the solo cello sonata and a couple of other pieces.

        Update.

Found it,I'd forgotten just how beautiful the slow movement of No 2 is.

The very beginning always turns into an earworm as soon as I am listening to that movement

there is some potentially interesting, and certainly downloadable material here.
