"Ten Pieces"

I recorded the Heath Quartet with a group of teenagers who make hip hop, when they met them they absolutely loved their playing and the music (it was mostly Haydn) when their teacher played them some Haydn string quartets in preparation they thought it was cr*p music for 'old' people.
It's all about context.... in fact it's ALL about context

Isn't that why it matters to include it in the 'context' of Radio 1, rather than Radio 2 and Radio 3?

There is, of course, "Classical" music on Radio 1 , i'm sure they played some of the Cradle of Filth album with Lincoln Cathedral Choir a while ago?

IMVVHO Classical has no place on R1 - if yoof are moving that way I feel they will try bits of R3 dare I say Breakfast and Guests of interest on Private Passions and mini PP on Essential Classics....

The point is that most of them won't 'move that way' because they and the music never cross paths. That is the point.

I cannot think of anything more middle-aged to elderly than Breakfast, Essential Classics and Private Passions. The 6Music persuasion might listen to Late Junction where they will occasionally hear a piece of classic or 'soft' contemporary. But most of the LJ listeners seem to declare it the 'best thing/only decent thing on Radio 3' and the classical programmes get the cold shoulder.

They come across Classical IMO all the time in film/TV music and the rest - if it is force fed on their station I don't see it working....

I don't think the 'Ten Pieces' would work on Radio 1, but I don't see why special Radio 2, 6 Music and Radio 1 programmes couldn't be devised that offered something which they aren't getting now, appropriately presented depending on the audience and which provided a bridge to Radio 3.

Or something on the lines of Late Junction? I personally dislike Late Junction, but being a fair-minded person that's why I make no suggestion that Late Junction should be disturbed: its fans like (even adore) it. Let it be . Let it be-ee … :-)
