He brought in Manuscript a suite by Laurie Johnson 4 Historical Portraits of England. I fell in love with this suite and have looked for a recording for years. Do any of the forumites know anything about it? I have heard a bit of it used as background music on television.

No, but I do know that Laurie Johnson led a number of jazz big bands in the 1960s/70s, and composed the theme tune to "The Sweeney".
