Three of those pieces were on that old SNO/Gibson LP, Music of the Four Countries. The Harty was always my favourite. (And Land of the Mountain and the Flood, the fourth piece, has already been included in another Fantasy Prom)

I like this one. Many years ago, I was in the Symphonic Band at my University and Trevor Sharpe was a quest conductor. He brought in Manuscript a suite by Laurie Johnson 4 Historical Portraits of England. I fell in love with this suite and have looked for a recording for years. Do any of the forumites know anything about it? I have heard a bit of it used as background music on television.

No, but I do know that Laurie Johnson led a number of jazz big bands in the 1960s/70s, and composed the theme tune to "The Sweeney".

Most of The Avengers' and The New Avengers' music, as well as Dr.Strangelove are Laurie Johnson's too.

I could almost guarantee that if people bothered to turn up to many of my suggestions they would by staggered why many of these works aren't in the regular repertoire.

                              Tomkins: When David heard
                              Finzi: Dies Natalis

Perhaps a little short in part 1 but I rather like that in a concert!
