    Great listening on R3!

We were driving down to Dorset yesterday and were listening to R3 on the way. Whether it was the holiday mood but it was a really enjoyable listen all the way. First there was Sir Neville Marriner on CD Review and marvellous to hear his memories and those lovely old Argo recordings. Also the the Russian Vaughan Williams recordings that followed. Then there was the fascinating programme about William Lloyd Webber. This was followed by a concert of splendidly-played Vivaldi concerti. Wasn't bothered with the film music but we had a break anyway at that point but were back on the road in time for the excellent Lapland Chamber Orchestra Prom from Cadogan Hall - C.P.E. Bach, Birtwistle, Maxwell Davies, Honegger and Sibelius.

It all made the long journey bearable and, for once, it's nice to be able to say that R3 provided some consistently great listening!

That stirs memories of the past!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

.... and after the film music there was an excellent edition of Jazz Record Requests featuring the works of the late Charlie Haden; indeed a good day's listening!

Thanks, ferney, cheers to you too !

I did catch the first bit of JRR, Calum, and was enjoying that as well but then we reached our destination. Will have to hear the rest of the programme via iPlayer.

Well, myself and MrsBBM were travelling back from Blackpool to home(near Brighton East Sussex), where for most of the way we enjoyed a NY Met production(I think), of Borodin's Prince Igor
