(actually I prefer the Rømer scale, when we're not using Rankine... )

Could someone explain messages 251-255? (or perhaps not - I probably wouldn't understand the explanation either)

          ... o come now, Flossheit -

          #251 a clever joke - not F Fahrenheit and C Celsius but musical keys - , C natural and F natural
          #252 synaesthesia
#253 synaesthesia - the key is dark blue
#254 laboured joke - light not dark

One of the funniest bits in Freud's little work on Jokes And Their Relation To The Unconscious is when he tries to "explain" a joke he doesn't find funny - the man at the dinner party pouring mayonnaise over himself ( ? - don't have text to hand). Nothing funnier than a serious German [ or even an Austrian... ] not getting a silly joke....

(sorry about the "joke", but it had to be done .....)

Back to the temperature thing, Its quite respectable to use F for high and C for low in this country.

... but confusing to the French for whom F = Froid and C = Chaud...

Why do people (and the broadcasters are equally to blame on this) still do this ?
                  I'm 50
I never did anything at school in Imperial units apart from miles

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                      ... found the reference :

'A man at a dinner table being handed fish dipped twice his two hands in mayonnaise and then ran them though his hair. When his neighbour looked at him in astonishment, he seemed to acknowledge his mistake, and apologised - "I'm so sorry, I thought it was spinach." '

Freud didn't get it. At all.

Well, I don't think Freud got it at all, anywhen....
