It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you. Time slips through my fingers like sand.

Cor Anglais – a Frenchman’s reaction to intrusive journalism.
I had to think about this for a while, I couldn't work out why I had put this entry the Groan dictionary. But I now recall that it was after the French had published those intrusive pictures of a topless Kate Middleton. All that fuss about so little

I believe that one of the benefits of this forum is to provide a refuge from life's problems.

I'm sure that many of our members, have health problems, family worries, conflicts at the workplace, financial worries and (very often) loneliness and solitude.

So the message boards provide an escape from life's problems, as well as offering advice, answers to our queries on the subjects that interest us and even an escape valve for our frustrations.

But sometimes dealing with our worldly problems leave us no time for reading or posting on these message boards and so we disappear for a period of time.

We don't have to log in to take an occasional look at what is being discussed, so a lack of participation does not neccesarily mean a lack of awareness of the arguments, advice or complaints that are to be found on any message board.

I believe that this thread - "Where is everyone?" is useful in showing our concern but does not mean that forum members are heading steadily for the exit doors.

Sometimes, no news is good news, but we are by nature an inquisitive bunch, so we are bound to ask from time to time.

          Quite HS.
Today I got stuck on my TV because I tried to get R3 on it. I had a job to get off a strange channel called Gay Rabbit. Oh dear

Perhaps I should explain that Freeview has many odd channels, including Radio but I never can find it - justhoping my hearing would benefit, but no, notnat the moment.

No need for explanation, salymap. However, Radio 3 is channel 703 on Freeview, but I know some Freeview boxes/integrated tuners separate tv and radio. Entering the channel number usually does the trick, but you might just need to toggle between radio and tv on the remote control. Here's hoping you regain some useful hearing soon.

Forgive me for sticking my nose in, salymap, but I wonder if you've sought professional help with your sight and hearing? Your remark about trying Radio 3 on Freeview suggested that you might be clutching at straws which led me to wonder which other avenues you had explored.

I have spent a number of years working with people with sight and hearing loss and it is surprising how often clients lacked essential information about their hearing aids. Digital hearing aids are quite often not set up with helpful functions by audiology departments when the aids are dispensed.

There is also equipment which can transmit sound directly from your TV to hearing aids. This sort of equipment is often free of charge to qualifying residents from local authority sensory services (the qualification in most places is still simply having a disabling hearing loss - difficulty with hearing the phone, door bell, smoke alarm, TV).

It may be no use to you but if you are still looking for help, you might find it in a number of places. Have you visited an audiologist or spoken to a local or national sensory loss service?

Not just inquisitive (or nosy? ), but we also care about people who suddenly disappear for no apparent reason.

Yes, I've looked at the entire daily range from the time the forum began:

                            Highest day ever: Dec 24 2013 - 705 posts
Lowest ever (excluding the first few days) May 13 2014 - 132

June, July and August last year were quietish, and they have been this year.

But in general posts can be anything from 200-300. That's average, and that's what it is at the moment. It very seldom reached 400, but odd days dip below 200 (3 days so far in August have been below 200, and 7 have been above 250).

Make what you like of that!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
