    "Fixed" music competitions

A salutary reminder from Julian Lloyd Webber". The Times on iPad article recalls the controversies involving Freddy Kempf, Martha Argerich, Van Cliburn and Ilan Rechtman. The latter, an Israeli pianist, was apparently fired as director of the Villa-Lobos competition in Brazil after claiming that the organisers were giving special treatment to Brazilian musicians. Lloyd Webber's comments refer to certain specialist competitions, and he definitely exempts BBCYM from any blame, saying it is "not corrupt at all". Mention is made in the article about Gergiev's reforms as chairman of the Tchaik.
