He was one of the great violinists of the 1970's but he's dropped of the scene these last few years. A friend in the RSNO reckoned he'd 'had problems' but was no more specific.

Such a pity, as I have some amazingly bright and sizzling CDs of him, and a vinyl (which as far as I can tell, has never made it to CD) of Beethoven's VC with the Gewandhaus/Mazur..... Philips, I believe.Comment

On that clip he seems to be trying to play in 'H.I.P.P' style but unfortunately it just doesn't work for him. The awful dry-as-dust acoustic and the orchestra's rather questionable intonation are no help either.Originally posted by visualnickmos View PostCrikey!
