While you are at it, try his piano trios too. Here’s one.

Gurnemanz' Cherubini recommendation on EMI is a front-runner, at the moment.

I'd be interested to know.
I'm more interested in the music, than this or that CD release (sometimes these threads get a bit like a CD review magazine, rather than a music forum!). But of course discussion of the CD releases that are available is helpful - so both please

This led my mind to wonder about other classical period masters, and the much ignored (by me and this forum, it seems) Mendelssohn came to mind.
Having a blind-spot here, and owning no recordings of Mendelssohn quartets, I was wondering about the views of other forumites about M's quartets in general, and a recommended place to start, in particular.
My two penneth.
The Herschell complete set of the quartets is brilliant,it's as if this music is their blood.
There is also the much hailed Brilliant Classics box of the complete chamber music.
I also have the Naxos discs of the Cello Sonatas,Piano Trios,Piano Quartets,String Quintets and the lovely Sextet for Piano and Strings, all highly recommendable.
Mendelssohn's chamber music,a gift to cherish.
Op 80,as good as anything the guvnor wrote pre Op 127,BUT ONLY IMVHO.
