Chorale Prelude "Kommst du nun, Jesu, vom Himmel herunter" BWV 650

"From Heaven, Jesu, do you now descend" (I think it's a request, rather than a question!) - one of the six "Schubler" Chorales. At a snippet under 4 mins, Padraig (and others) should have no problem with this week's good-to-be-alive offering, too. Back to Bart Jacobs, once again playing the organ of St Bavo's Church in Haarlem - recorded just over a year ago.

(Notice the typo in the NBS title: should be "vom Himmel", not "von" )

I recently had a dip into AoB and it seems they have deleted some of the interviews with the performers - which I had greatly enjoyed and valued.

Edit: for example the excellent one, still there, with Christian Rieger, albeit the sound is poor.

Sad news - I wonder if they have "issues" with the amount of data the site can hold?

...good to be alive...indeed--a lovely little piece!

Has anyone calculated how long it would take to cover 'all of Bach' at 4 minutes a week?

              Around 48.5 years.

(Played non-stop, the complete works of Bach take around seven days to get through.
              7 x 24 = 168 hours = 10080 minutes
Divide this into 4 minute chunks per week, = 2,520 weeks = 48.5 years.)

'Nuff said - or as you keep reminding us 'Numquam satis!'

A quick calculation earlier convinced me not even to think about it.

                  'cello(') Suite in D, BWV1012

Violoncello da Spalla - "little big viol for the shoulder" - the five-stringed instrument for which Bach (might have) written the Sixth of his unaccompanied 'cello suites. This is the first of the works to be included in the "All of Bach" project, recorded a year ago by Russian 'cellist Sergey Malov in the Gashouder, Amsterdam - a former gas tank, now used for Arts events.

                  I liked this a lot!

PS - yes; a "gas tank": I kid thee not!

Either I've had a completely wrong conception of human anatomy all my life, or that isn't his "shoulder"!

Not so - my bad! The first suite (in G, BWV 1007) played by Lucia Swarts in the Rijksmuseum, was published three years ago:

Strapped round his neck and butted up against his right shoulder, surely? Is that not the normal way of playing da spalla.

I have the Dmitry Badiarov and the Sigiswald Kuijken CD sets of the 6 suites, both played on instruments made by the former.

I'm not a doctor, but I would've said that that was the collar bone - if not (in some of those images: the first of Kuijken leaves plenty of room for a parrot on both shoulders!) the chest.

Anyroadup - it's a ryddu good performance, whatever part of his anatomy he's using.

There's more to the shoulder than just the joint itself.
