I am transcribing for concert band, my latest project JSB's Prelude & Fugue in Eb, BWV552, "St Ann", for concert band. I do rather like Schoenberg's transcription of this work but I am hopefully not going to take any notice of this!Don’t cry for me
I go where music was born

When you listen to the music do you get the feeling of doom-laden guilt?
Not me.
Today
Cantata - Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben, BWV 102.
Well JSB doesn't make it easy for the musicians or listeners, almost like being told off at times.
Brilliant.
Oh,and you must listen today, don't leave it until tomorrow !!!!!
I said don't wait until tomorrow.

I had thoughts about this performance: does one ignore the words and just enjoy the playing and singing? Does the performance express faithfully the terror of the text, and does it have to?
In my own case I listened first and read the text later. In fact my usual practice before this project was to listen only to the performance, which was enough for me to enjoy the various performances of Bach cantatas. I would love to understand German as well, but .......
My other thought is a recurring one - do we have male altos for historic reasons, or are women excluded/unavailable?

How odd.
I can get the performance from Ferney's link but not from the AOB site.
I can't get the interview to play at all.
If it's any help Padraig the 5 little Preludes can be found on you tube, but only played on a piano as far as I can see.
Here they are played on a very beautiful looking Harpsichord,in a very nice room and on a nice carpet.
