      BWV 694

When you listen to the music do you get the feeling of doom-laden guilt?
      Not me.

I am transcribing for concert band, my latest project JSB's Prelude & Fugue in Eb, BWV552, "St Ann", for concert band. I do rather like Schoenberg's transcription of this work but I am hopefully not going to take any notice of this!

          Nope Padraig.

          Today

Cantata - Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben, BWV 102.

Well JSB doesn't make it easy for the musicians or listeners, almost like being told off at times.
          Brilliant.

Oh,and you must listen today, don't leave it until tomorrow !!!!!
I said don't wait until tomorrow.

I did listen on Friday, ER. When the Lord says jump, I do make an effort - just in case.

I had thoughts about this performance: does one ignore the words and just enjoy the playing and singing? Does the performance express faithfully the terror of the text, and does it have to?
In my own case I listened first and read the text later. In fact my usual practice before this project was to listen only to the performance, which was enough for me to enjoy the various performances of Bach cantatas. I would love to understand German as well, but .......
My other thought is a recurring one - do we have male altos for historic reasons, or are women excluded/unavailable?

Why not? You've got 11 weeks to listen to it at the proper Sunday, which is Trinitatis 10 (today is Pentecost/Whitsun, hence coming Sunday is Trinity, Trinitatis 10 is the 10th week after Trinity)

Probably why the Adagio and Fugue were for many years a requirement for Cambridge organ scholarships.

Duet No 4 in A Minor BWV 805.

The last of the BWV 802 to 805 duets.

Maybe not actually written for organ but sounds nice played on one

                      Organ music again.

'Allein Gott in der Hoh' BWV 675.

The first of three pieces based of this Chorale, short and sweet and wonderful.

Is it my fault, or is today's offering unavailable? I cannot raise the performance after an hour of attempts.

That's most peculiar, Padraig - it plays fine for me. Sorry - that probably isn't any help!

                                How odd.
I can get the performance from Ferney's link but not from the AOB site.
I can't get the interview to play at all.
If it's any help Padraig the 5 little Preludes can be found on you tube, but only played on a piano as far as I can see.
Here they are played on a very beautiful looking Harpsichord,in a very nice room and on a nice carpet.
