After going to my sister's, I am just now listening to the final third of this awesome cantata... what a pleasant surprise it was earlier hearing 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' - truly sublime.

What a gem. We've had this quartet before - surely a prototype for musicians of the future! (If only they had kept the instrumentation). Not fair to pick out any one member but the viola da gamba line was remarkable.

Surprised to learn that so relatively little of Bach's music for oboe has survived, and none it seems of his Oboe Concertos. I have heard the oboe in so many of his Cantatas and other pieces to great effect. Even this Concerto is reconstructed - but it sounds solidly 'Bach' to me.
